Should the Denver Broncos pursue recently released NFC player?
On Thursday, the Los Angeles Rams released linebacker Bobby Wagner. Could the Denver Broncos have interest in the veteran player?
Last year during the fallout of the Russell Wilson trade, there seemed to be some steam about the Broncos signing Bobby Wagner when he was released by the Seattle Seahawks. The connections that were made there, obviously, is Wilson and Wagner having played together in Seattle for nearly a decade.
The Broncos also had a need at ILB last year, but the emergence of Alex Singleton helped satisfy that need.
Now, Singleton is a free agent and Josey Jewell does come with a very light injury history that is worth monitoring.
Well, Bobby Wagner is one of the best inside linebackers in NFL history, and it's not even a discussion.
Since coming into the league in 2012, Wager has missed just nine games. He's notched at least 104 tackles in every season of his career.
He's added 29.5 sacks during his career, 13 interceptions, and is an eight-time Pro Bowler and a six-time All-Pro. There really is no denying the kind of impact that Wagner would have on the Broncos. Furthermore, the defense is likely going to take a step back as they are going from Ejiro Evero to Vance Joseph, so I think bringing in some top-notch players can help offset the potential dropoff.
I'm not sure what kind of relationship that Wagner and Wilson have, but that might not even matter.
Wagner may also be entering the final few seasons of his career, and even though he's already a surefire Hall of Famer, Wagner surely would want to play for a team ready to compete. Well, the Broncos hiring Sean Payton has surely raised some flags across the NFL.
There is no denying that Denver has made a huge upgrade with the HC spot so that might sway players to want to come to Denver.
