Broncos make an interesting choice for team's new QB coach
The Denver Broncos are starting to fill out their coaching staff, finally, and the team has a new quarterbacks coach.
On the same day that Vance Joseph was officially brought back as the team's defensive coordinator, the Broncos also brought Davis Webb onto the staff. Webb will take over for Klint Kubiak who served as the team's passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach last season. This offseason, Kubiak joined the coaching staff of the San Francisco 49ers. Jake Heaps, the personal quarterback coach for Russell Wilson, was also around last season but Sean Payton has stated that won't be taking place anymore.
The Broncos are bringing Webb in despite him having no experience as a coach. In fact, his playing career just ended as he was with the New York Giants this past season and he even made one start for the team last year.
Webb was once a highly-touted prospect in college after transferring from Texas Tech and playing his final season at California. That season, he put up huge numbers, passing for over 4,200 yards and 37 touchdowns. That led to him being a third-round pick in the 2017 draft by the Giants.
Webb played one season with the Giants before spending time with the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills before circling back to the Giants for his final season. The game he started in 2022 was the only game in his career in which he did. He threw for a touchdown and ran for another but coaching was always in his long-term plans.
Now he gets a shot working under one of the most brilliant offensive minds that the NFL has ever seen. Former Giants players and coaches praised Webb for his understanding of the game and his preparation in helping the starting quarterback get ready. That was the entire reason Brian Daboll brought him with him to the Giants after both were together in Buffalo, where he would help Josh Allen prepare.
Webb could be a tremendous addition to this coaching staff.
