Quarterback: Peyton Manning, 2012

Like there was any question here.

Peyton Manning is one of the great free-agent signings by any team, at any position, in NFL history.

We all remember the story. He was one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time even before coming to Denver, but after 14 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, surgery on his neck left many questions. That caused the Colts to actually, almost shockingly, release Manning. They had the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. They had Andrew Luck in their back pocket.

Manning was going to become a free agent. Teams were lining up to make a move for him.

But it was Elway, then the team's general manager and vice president of football operations, that came up with the best sales pitch. He was able to get Manning to Denver, something no one could have predicted.

The Broncos had made the playoffs the year before. But they did so as an 8-8 team with Tim Tebow playing quarterback. Tebow quickly became an afterthought and he was traded to the Jets. The Broncos had the guy that could put them over the top.

And he did just that.

Manning showed no signs of a setback from the surgery and at times, looked better than he ever did in Indy. He put up massive numbers in Denver, including single-season records of 5,477 passing yards and 55 touchdowns in 2013 that still stand to this day.

Manning won Super Bowl 50 in his final NFL game. He did everything that Broncos fans could have dreamed of and more during his time in Denver.

He is an easy choice for this, or any, list.
