Wide Receivers

Ed McCaffrey, 1995: A third-round pick of the New York Giants in 1991, Ed McCaffrey spent three years in New York before playing for the San Francisco 49ers for one season. He put up paltry numbers but there was something about him that 49ers offensive coordinator Mike Shanahan loved.

Shanahan became the head coach of the Broncos in 1995 and he brought McCaffrey over with him. He would join a wide receiving corps that featured Vance Johnson, Anthony Miller, Mike Pritchard and Rod Smith, but the new coach wanted to find a role for him.

And that he did.

McCaffrey would catch a career-high 39 passes that season while gaining the trust of John Elway. He would become a bigger part of the offense as the years went on and his reception numbers increased every year from 1995-2000.

Only four players in team history ever caught more passes.

Emmanuel Sanders, 2014: Sitting at No. 7 on the team's all-time receptions list is Emmanuel Sanders, who the Broncos signed ahead of the 2014 season.

That year, Eric Decker had left to take big money with the New York Jets. The team needed another target for Peyton Manning to get the ball to and they took a shot on Sanders who was productive but part of a crowded Pittsburgh Steelers passing attack.

Sanders was fantastic for Denver, catching 101 passes for 1,404 yards and nine touchdowns that year. He made the Pro Bowl that year and again in 2016. Of course, sandwiched in between those two seasons was the Super Bowl team in 2015.

Sanders led the Broncos with six catches for 83 yards on that night.
