While the popular feeling within Broncos Country might be doom and gloom, there are a few notable reasons to be excited about the team's 2024 NFL Draft. In a very crucial part of the Broncos franchise, the team will embark on their NFL Draft in less than two weeks. It's no secret that Denver could be targeting a quarterback.
It's also no secret that other teams could want the same thing. For Denver, they have eight total picks in April's draft but none in the second round and just one in the top 75 selections. They are at a bit of a pick disadvantage, and the best QB prospects seem to be out of their range. However, that doesn't mean something awesome won't happen for the Broncos during the draft.
In fact, here are three reasons to be excited about the Denver Broncos 2024 NFL Draft.
1. The 2024 quarterback class seems quite deep
Yeah, there might only be two franchise quarterbacks to come out of the 2024 NFL Draft, but there also could be triple that number. Besides the "big 4" QBs in Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, JJ McCarthy, and Jayden Daniels, there could be three other quarterbacks who have attractive qualities to become franchise QBs in the NFL and who could work well with Sean Payton.
All of Bo Nix, Michael Penix Jr, and even Spencer Rattler have very encouraging parts to their game that could be translated into Payton's offenses. Heck, the Denver Broncos could be looking at a QB class that is seven passers deep. They surely have a big board of QB rankings and surely have a QB in mind above anyone else, but let's not present this quarterback class is hurting with prospects.
It's not.
2. The team clearly has a plan in place for the NFL Draft
I believe that the Denver Broncos have a plan in place for the 2024 NFL Draft. They have clearly gone the route of moving on from some veteran players that have been with the team for some time and did not do much in free agency, which tells me that this team is hoping to rebuild their foundation a bit in the NFL Draft.
There are still some foundational pieces on the roster right now, so this was not a "rip it down to the studs" rebuild. However, the Broncos could realistically come out of this draft with promising rookies at QB, OT, and EDGE, which are all foundational pieces for a winning football team. And with the Denver Broncos doing their homework on these three positions thus far, I firmly believe that their plan is just what I outlined.
I don't think this team is going to do the retooling nonsense that was tried for years; no; I think they are going to deliberately put a plan in place that we could see come to fruition during the 2024 season.
3. The draft is insanely deep at wide receiver and offensive tackle
Two positions that the Denver Broncos need some long-term stability in are at offensive tackle and wide receiver. The team traded Jerry Jeudy to the Cleveland Browns, and both Garett Bolles and Mike McGlinchey are likely not going to be here for the long-term. Denver hasn't drafted a tackle since Bolles in 2017, so the need for one is obvious.
McGlinchey also isn't that great, and Denver should at some point in the near future, hit on a young right tackle. At wide receiver, Courtland Sutton turns 29 in October. Tim Patrick turns 31 in November, and Josh Reynolds, the Broncos newly-signed WR, turned 29 in February. Marvin Mims Jr is the only young wide receiver on the roster who is currently trending in the right direction to be a long-term fixture in that room.
For the short-term, Denver's tackle and WR situations could be fine, but they need to take advantage of the deep OT and WR class in the 2024 NFL Draft.
