Denver Broncos on the hot seat in 2023
3. Russell Wilson, QB

This is the most obvious choice for being on the hot seat in 2023. The most recent national media drama surrounding Russell Wilson is that he apparently wanted Pete Carroll and John Schneider fired in Seattle before they traded him to Denver.

Moreover, Wilson also wanted the Seahawks to try to hire Sean Payton to take Carroll's spot. Well, it seems that Wilson got his wish to be dealt from the Seahawks, but his first season in Denver was embarrassingly bad.

With Sean Payton now in the building as one of the most dominant offensive minds of this generation, Wilson needs to show that he can be his old self in 2023 or else the Broncos may begin or continue to look for a replacement.

Contractually, the team could cut Russell Wilson after the 2023 season. They'd have to eat $35 million in dead cap and would not save anything, but it's possible. Depending on how the veteran plays this upcoming season, I think Denver would entertain that and would then allow Sean Payton and his staff to bring in their own guy.

The Denver Broncos are not Russell Wilson and Russell Wilson is not the Denver Broncos. The team did not hire Payton to fix Wilson, but to rather fix the team. There are also no ties between Wilson and Payton within Denver, so it's not like if Wilson plays poorly in 2023, Payton will be fired.

In fact, Payton will likely outlast Wilson in Denver, and being that the QB turns 35 in 2023, time is ticking. There's no denying that he needs to be better in 2023 and if he isn't watch out.
