The Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers were tied up at 3 points after the first half of play in Week 4. Denver's defense more than held their own against a talented 49ers unit, even with the amount of injuries San Francisco is dealing with.

Well, as the second half was coming to a close, All-World cornerback Patrick Surtain II went down with a non-contact injury. He had to be helped off the field by two trainers and obviously did not return in the first half.

The injury severity is unkonwn as the halftime period hits.

Here is a video of the injury. Surtain pulled up on a route he was guarding:

It does not look good, but we're also not doctors, and there has been no official ruling as of yet.

Update: Surtain is questionable to return with an ankle injury.

Surtain's Injury History with the Broncos

As recently as 2025, Surtain missed three games with a pectoral strain. He suffered that injury in Week 8 against the Dallas Cowboys.

During the 2024 NFL Season, Surtain missed just one full game with a concussion he suffered in October 13th of that season, which was a game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

In some more minor injuries, Surtain dealt with knee and chest ailments in the 2021 season, and had a minor shoulder issue during the 2022 campaign. Outside of that, though, Surtain has been a very healthy player and has stayed on the field more times than not for the Broncos.

Surtain won the Defensive Player of the Year award during the 2024 season and continues to be the best cornerback in the NFL. His ability to blanket one-half of the field has been a huge reason why the Broncos have been so good on defense during his tenure.

As of now, Surtain's current pace in the NFL would place him into the Hall of Fame one day, and it's not a stretch to say that he's the best cornerback in Broncos history outside of Champ Bailey. As Injury updates become available for Surtain, we'll be sure to immediately update you.

The second half starting sees the Broncos and 49ers tied up at 3. San Francisco is 3-0 entering this game, and the Broncos are a solid 2-1 after winning two games in a row following a brutal Week 1 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs.
