Even if there are plenty of trades that serve as a cautionary tale of why being frugal is the wise move, it's impossible to ignore the impact Jeffery Simmons just made in his debut with the Chicago Bears on Monday night.
The Bears struck a blockbuster deal with the Tennessee Titans before their huge Week 8 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, sending multiple 1st-round picks in exchange for arguably the best interior defensive lineman in the game right now.
And he was absolutely dominant immediately.
Simmons' performance against Seattle serves as a reminder that a team like the Denver Broncos -- who have been rumored to be interested in big trades -- needs to be aggressive and get something done.
Jeffery Simmons' impact should push Broncos to a blockbuster deal

The instant impact of a player like Jeffery Simmons was felt in a big way on Monday night.
Of course, nobody is surprised by how good of a player he is, but there is always some type of acclimation/adjustment period for players who get traded in any sport. The Bears just let Simmons go out there and make plays, and that's exactly what he did.
He finished the game against the Seahawks with 6 total tackles, a batted pass, two tackles for loss, and his first sack as a member of the Chicago Bears.
His debut with the Bears is a clear indicator of why you need to just go for it sometimes.
Broncos should take cues from Bears GM Ryan Poles
The Broncos may not have been in the market for Jeffery Simmons, but they should absolutely be in the market for impact players.
They've been connected to running back Jonathan Taylor, who has been made available by the Indianapolis Colts, and that would be a huge move to show they are all in on this season. Taylor has been one of the best running backs in the NFL since he came into the league, and he's still one of the best and most productive right now at the age of 27.
And maybe the Jeffery Simmons trade by the Bears can serve as another reminder to the Broncos' brain trust: Never assume anyone is off limits. Make the ask.
Something I personally subscribe to is the idea of never saying someone's "no" for them. George Paton and Sean Payton should be dreaming big. Even if it seems like a player might be off limits, make the ask.
You never know when you're going to be able to make a deal that could alter the trajectory of your franchise.
Sure, it's just one game from Simmons with the Bears, but that game against the Seahawks gave us a glimpse of how an entire team responds when a trade like that is made. It is a fresh wind in the sails of everybody to have that vote of confidence from the GM: We believe you guys are so good, we're going to give up multiple 1st-round picks to get another star on this team.
That is precisely the mentality the Broncos have to have approaching the NFL trade deadline in 2026.
