The Denver Broncos have already set their initial 53-man roster, so the work can begin on assembling the 16-player practice squad.
In the case of the Broncos, it looks like it will actually be 17 players with a roster exception for International Pathway player David Agoha, an outside linebacker.
Every NFL team is permitted to have a 16-player practice squad, and each practice squad around the league is allowed to have a maximum of 6 vested veterans. The Broncos already plan on utilizing those exceptions, and have spilled the beans on a couple of veterans who will be on the initial practice team.

The Broncos are already down to 14 available practice squad spots before the festivities really even get underway.
The plan is to bring fullback Adam Prentice and long snapper Mitchell Fraboni back onto the practice squad so they can be called up for the team's Week 1 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Each vested veteran has 3 "free" call-ups to the gameday roster (before they are subject to waivers), and the Broncos are wasting no time using those ways of manipulating the system.
With three quarterbacks on the initial 53-man roster, the Broncos had to find other ways to get creative and open up roster spots. One of the ways they did that was by putting the long snapper on the practice squad, which is sort of a power move, if you think about it.
The assembly of the practice squad is going to be fascinating to watch for the Broncos, who typically get a lot of use out of their practice squad players every season under Sean Payton. Whether they are injury replacements or guys getting called up because they've done good work throughout the week, the Broncos don't simply "stash" player on the practice team.

There will be a number of recent draft picks by this team who will be in focus as waiver claims around the NFL start to trickle in.
The Broncos made the shocking decision to cut 5th-round rookie TE Justin Joly, as well as 7th-round pick Red Murdock, the final pick of the 2026 NFL Draft. They also cut recent draft picks like safety Miles Scott and LB Drew Sanders, a 3rd-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
