The Denver Broncos are now 2-2 for the third year in a row following a brutal, flat-out embarrassing Week 4 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. It's the second double-digit loss of the season for the Broncos, and while 13 games still remain, the 2026 Broncos feel like a team primed for regression.
But on the flip side, maybe not. This is a well-coached team - Sean Payton knows what he is doing, and him being 2-2 through four weeks is something that has happened more times than not during his time with the Broncos.
The team now has two more games to finish up this six-game gauntlet that the NFL put them on to begin the season. Well, in Week 5, their next opponent might not be nearly as threatening as we thought, as the 0-4 Los Angeles Chargers could present a legitimate get-right game for the Broncos.
The Denver Broncos need to beat the hopeless Los Angeles Chargers in Week 5
You might roll your eyes at me for even saying this, but the Chargers are a horrific football team and considerably worse than the Broncos thus far. LA is now 0-4 on the season after losing to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 4.
The team is simply not nearly as talented as they need to be, and quarterback Justin Herbert has also not played well at all. He now has four touchdown passes against six interceptions through four weeks. He's not thrown for more than 226 yards in a season and has not completed more than 63 percent of his passes in a game.
In fact, both sides of the ball just aren't working for the Chargers, and this is honestly what happens to teams that bring in a new offensive and defensive coordinator from the previous season. This team lost six games all of last year and is already nearly at that total from 2025. While the Broncos have struggled against the Jim Harbaugh-led Chargers, quarterback Bo Nix has a 5:1 TD:INT ratio against the team and has played rather well within the AFC West throughout his career.
The Broncos now have a new bad taste in their mouth after this loss, and while the Chargers also have the same thing, they've proven that they're simply incapable of getting that bad taste washed out. While Denver can absolutely lose in Week 5, Los Angeles' overall incompetence can help the Broncos get back on track in a get-right game.
