The Denver Broncos have totally overhauled the wide receiver room in recent years, and this offseason, the major trade for Jaylen Waddle should end up being the move that puts this unit over the top. Not only do the Broncos have one of the best WR duos in the NFL with Waddle and Courtland Sutton, who have a combined six 1,000-yard seasons in their careers, but the room is also quite deep as well.
With the emergence of second-year pass-catcher Pat Bryant, the Broncos are soon going to field a group that may end up with four or five legitimate contributors, as both Troy Franklin and Marvin Mims Jr are quite competent.
Well, the AFC West rival Kansas City Chiefs simply cannot say that, as it seems like, yet again, the Chiefs are poised to have one of the shakiest receiver rooms in the NFL heading into the 2026 season.

And while the Chiefs didn't seem to have a legitimate chance at Stefon Diggs, as it seemed to be the Washington Commanders all along, Chiefs' expert Matt Conner, perhaps disappointingly, sums up the state of the room as training camps continue:
"Rashee Rice is still working his way back from offseason knee debridement surgery, and his continued off-the-field struggles make him too great a wild card to lock in as a dependable volume target.
Xavier Worthy played through multiple injuries a year ago and is already sitting out training camp with a shoulder injury.
Jalen Royals is completely untested after a redshirt rookie campaign in '25.
Tyquan Thornon was excellent in spurts last season and is hungry for more, but he's only a year removed from competing for a roster spot.
Cyrus Allen has impressed in camp, but no team should depend on a day three rookie in his first season at any position."
To be honest with you, this room is horrendous and a massive slap in the face to Patrick Mahomes, who is coming off a major knee injury and just isn't the type of player you want to continue carrying the load at this stage of his career.
For some odd reason, the Chiefs front office just did not make a notable move at this position, and you could argue quite easily that both Waddle and Sutton would slide into the WR1 role for the Chiefs right now, and you could convince me that both Bryant and Franklin would be, at worst, second options if they were on the Chiefs.
It's certainly good news for the Broncos, as the secondary shouldn't have a major issue keeping this group contained, but it's baffling for the Chiefs themselves. As we saw in the Super Bowl back in 2024 and during the 2025 season, the Chiefs roster flaws were magnified, as even when Mahomes was healthy in 2025, the Chiefs weren't a truly threatening team.
Sure, they signed Kenneth Walker III in free agency, but tight end Travis Kelce is a year older, and the receiver room is still a bit of a mess. I actually wonder why the Chiefs didn't trade for Waddle, to be honest, as they had a much bigger need at the position than the Broncos did.
This is certainly nothing to complain about, but it does make you wonder what the Chiefs' front office was doing this offseason.
