Seeing the Denver Broncos getting blown out at home against the Green Bay Packers in Week 2 of the preseason was quite something, and it simply was not something that happened all that often or much at all in the Sean Payton era.
This team is simply to well-coached and well-built to lose in that fashion, especially at home. While no NFL team is perfect, the Broncos are better than that second preseson game. Well, in the team's third and final preseason game of the 2026 NFL Offseason, a much better performance took place.
The Broncos blew out the Minnesota Vikings - it wasn't close, and it does further prove just how well-coached this team is and how they respond.
Denver Broncos blowout win is exactly what this team needed to do
It seems like Payton himself is really good at magnifying problems in a game to make it seem like a major deal to the players. He does this to ensure those issues get corrected in the following outing.
While losing a preseason game is far from the end of the world, and might not matter at all when the rubber meets the road, there are still some teaching pointers that come from that game, and with Payton being able to make just about anything into a production, it's no surprise that the Broncos came out and dominated Minnesota.
This also does show that the Broncos depth is better than the Vikings, but that wasn't and is not a shock at all. Given the Super Bowl expectations for the team this year, how they respond to tough outings, ugly wins or losses in general could not be more important.
Denver now also has some great film to look at and build off of approaching the team's first regular season game against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1. While many of the players on the team who suited up for this one aren't going to see much, if any regular season action, the overall response to coaching and response to a bad loss is refreshing.
I also think it wouldn't have sat well for Payton if his Broncos finished with a losing record in the preseason, as they had gone 3-0 in the 2024 and 2025 preseasons, so keeping that winning record streak alive is certainly something Payton looked at.
With this win - the way the Broncos responded, the team clearly has some of the best coaching in the NFL and now get to turn all their attention to prepare for the regular season.
