The Denver Broncos feast in the preseason, as they continued their long preseason winning streak, beating the Atlanta Falcons in blowout fashion in their house to kickoff the 2026 season. The starters did get a good bit of action in this one on both sides of the ball.
Of note, though, Bo Nix, Jaylen Waddle, J.K. Dobbins, and Luke Wattenberg did not play, but most of the rest were out there. The Broncos churned out two touchdown drives on offense in the first half and also ended up with a pick-six thanks to Jahdae Barron Karene Reid.
When you look at just how the Broncos went about this game and won, it's clear that this team already flexed their Super Bowl muscles in the first real game action of the season.
The Denver Broncos showed off supreme depth and starter dominance against the Falcons
This wasn't really a secret or anything, but seeing it playing out against a team that did have talent of their own was further confirmaton of just how loaded this roster is. When teams get to this Super Bowl juggernaut status, it's not just about the 22 starters on the field on both sides of the ball.
The depth is where teams go far and win games. Denver's depth was tested at times in 2025, as they lost Dobbins to a season-ending foot injury and also saw left guard Ben Powers suffer a biceps injury. Starting safety Brandon Jones also got hurt late in the season, so former safety PJ Locke III had to take over.
Essentially, Denver's depth was on display last year, and it's already spilled over into this season. Of note, the defensive line feels even deeper this year than it did last year, and the Broncos may also have a wealth of competent wide receivers now.
This game was not close. The Falcons had no chance, and while Atlanta isn't expected to amount to much this year, this team does have some key talent. For the Broncos, the preseason is a time to sharpen everything up and get prepared for the full season grind, as this franchise is now at a point where the playoffs are the minimum.
Denver's won 24 regular season games over the past two seasons and obviously would have likely played in the Super Bowl in 2025 had Nix not gotten hurt. From top to bottom, including the coaching staff being able to put their guys in the best positions to succeed, and the loaded roster with multiple guys deep at just about every position, the 2026 Broncos are clearly capable of winning it all.
They flexed their Super Bowl muscles as much as one team reasonably could in preseason action.
