You might roll your eyes that we're already talking about free agents in 2027, but why not? The Denver Broncos are among the best teams in the NFL, and that will only remain the case if the team not only keeps drafting well, but hits on the right free agents.
A lot can change between now and next March, so there is a chance that some of the names on his wishlist just aren't available, but as of now, they will be.
Let's dive into a potential wishlist for 2027 - we aren't necessarily saying the Broncos should or need to sign all of these players, but they could have some of them in mind.
Denver Broncos free agency wishlist for 2027 could revamp the defense
Linebacker
Daiyan Henley
How about fixing the inside linebacker room? The Broncos group might just be the worst in the NFL right now, and it could get to a point where an in-season addition is made. With the way the Los Angeles Chargers have played this year, the team could look to undergo a bit of a mini-rebuild. This could lead to someone like Daiyan Henley hitting the open market. Henley has 100+ tackles in each of the last two years, would bring a bit of youth to the room, and, according to Pro Football Reference, has only allowed an 83.8 passer rating in coverage.
DeMarvion Overshown
The Dallas Cowboys have a ton of notable 2027 free agents, and there simply isn't a scenario where all of the main ones are brought back. DeMarvion Overshown is their most talented linebacker and broke out as a second-year player back in 2024. He's got the athletic upside to be one of the better linebackers in the league but has also missed double-digit games in two of his four seasons thus far.
Defensive Line
Kobie Turner
Kobie Turner is simply one of the best defensive tackles in football. He ranks high in ESPN's run stop and pass rush rates for DTs so far. The Los Angeles Rams are another team that have a slew of notable free agents and surely won't be able to bring all of them back. Turner could be a replacement for DJ Jones, who is a bit older and not nearly as good.
Jones doesn't have any guaranteed money on his contract after 2026, so this could be a logical replacement.
Daron Payne
A bit older, Daron Payne could be a solid free agent pickup to replace Jones along the defensive line. Payne is playing in his age-29 season and is a sturdy 6-3, 320 pounds, so he does have that 'space eater' category. He's missed just three games in his now nine year career and does have both run stopping and pass rush upside.
Cornerback
Riq Woolen
If the Broncos really wanted to get aggressive, they could target Riq Woolen as a potential Riley Moss replacement. Woolen is a better player and has the size to matchup with any receiver on the outside. He's great in man coverage and has allowed a 71.4 passer rating in coverage, according to Pro Football Reference.
Running Back
Tony Pollard
The Broncos could get out of J.K. Dobbins' contract after one year if they wanted to, and if Dobbins doesn't begin to produce a bit more, Denver could approach a scenario where they have some 'damaged goods' on their hands with the veteran, who has struggled to stay healthy throughout his career.
Tony Pollard is the definition of consistent - he's had at least 1,000 scrimmage yards five years in a row and has also rushed for at least 1,005 yards four years in a row. He's also never averaged below 4.0 yards per carry and has played in 15 regular season games or each year of his career.
Tight End
Sam LaPorta
What would be another bold move on offense, the Broncos should look to have Sam LaPorta on their wishlist. He's one of the better receiving tight ends in football - he averages 76 receptions, 849 yards, and eight touchdowns over a 17-game season.
He also has a 116.3 passer rating when targeted and does not have a drop on his resume since the 2024 season.
