2. Patrick Mahomes is just 27 going on 28 years old
Patrick Mahomes has already been named NFL MVP twice. He’s the reigning Super Bowl MVP. He has thrown for over 28,000 yards in his pro career, including over 4,000 yards in the playoffs. He is the NFL’s version of a “cheat code” at the quarterback position.
It doesn’t seem to matter if the Chiefs are down by 10, 20, or any amount, really. It feels like with Mahomes under center, they’re never out of any game. As we saw in the Super Bowl, Mahomes brought Kansas City back from being down 10 points, even after the Eagles really played an outstanding first half, keeping the ball out of Mahomes’ hands as much as possible and dominating time of possession.
As we’ve also seen, Mahomes doesn’t even need more than 13 seconds to keep his team in a game.
This guy will throw the ball left-handed, he’ll play backyard football, he’ll pass the ball over the top of defenders like a point guard dropping it to his big man in the paint…It literally doesn’t matter if you think you’ve got this guy dead to rights, fish in a barrel. He’s going to find ways to make plays where there are no plays to be made.
Not only does Mahomes excel in the structure of Andy Reid’s offense, but he’s probably the best QB in the league right now playing out of structure. When you combine those two things together, you get two Super Bowl wins in a matter of a few years, I guess.
