2022 Broncos starters who won’t start in the 2023 season
2022 Broncos’ starters who won’t start in the 2023 season – Offense
Graham Glasgow, Dalton Risner, Lloyd Cushenberry, Garett Bolles, Cameron Fleming, Latavius Murray
This is an interesting situation, as you could technically count someone like Billy Turner in this as well as he started seven games, but I tried to find players who either opened the season as the primary starter or were the unquestioned starter at the position at some point during the season.
Graham Glasgow’s contract and cap savings are too much for the Broncos to ignore. He also hasn’t been great in the orange and blue and I don’t think has a future with the team.
Dalton Risner has been bad for the last three seasons and should not be re-signed. He’s been the starter at left guard since he entered the league in 2019 but has gotten worse since his promising rookie season.
Lloyd Cushenberry was never more than a backup-caliber center and it’s a shame that the team let Connor McGovern go in favor of Cushenberry. Glasgow took over the starting center job when Cush went down early in the 2022 season, but the third-year product out of LSU is sure to not return to the starting lineup.
Garett Bolles has been the full-time starter at left tackle since being drafted in 2017 and broke out in his fourth year in 2020. He regressed a bit in 2021 and broke his leg at the beginning of the 2022 season. Something tells me that Bolles won’t be back in 2023…
Cameron Fleming started 15 games for the Denver Broncos and played rather well, and I’d love it if the team brought him back as a primary swing tackle. I don’t think he’s quite good enough to be a week-to-week starter in the NFL but I think he most definitely has a role with the team.
Latavius Murray was nothing but excellent in 2022 for the Broncos, averaging over four yards per carry. He had 703 yards and five touchdowns in 12 games, but while Murray is very likely to return, as he’s played with Sean Payton in New Orleans, but he’s 33 years old and I don’t think he’s a week-to-week starter in the NFL anymore.
He’s really only gotten true RB1 carries in two of his seasons in the NFL. He’s always been a very nice RB1.5 type of player if that makes sense. Murray sharing the backfield with a fresh running back who can be the bell-cow until Javonte Williams returns will be a lethal combination.
I’m not sure who the Broncos will begin the season with as the RB1, but it’s imperative they keep Murray around in some capacity.
