4 bargain bin free agents Broncos need to consider signing

Drew Lock, Quarterback, Seattle Seahawks
Yes, I’m absolutely serious.
The Broncos are going to need to find a better option for the No. 2 quarterback spot this offseason and because of how much they are already paying Wilson, it makes absolutely no sense to invest in a big contract for a backup quarterback such as the $19.8 million a year that Spotrac predicts it will cost to get Taylor Heinicke.
But even guys with half of that projection, veterans such as Andy Dalton, Jacoby Brissett, Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold are not worth the cost.
The Broncos need to find a rookie (like Max Duggan) or find a cheap backup quarterback who is better than Brett Rypien.
Drew Lock checks those boxes.
Lock is a backup quarterback in the NFL, that’s just what he is, but he could also be a very good backup quarterback.
Payton is known for getting the best play out of his quarterback and a new approach, culture and philosophy could be just what a guy like Lock could need. Would the team bring him back? Stranger things have happened.
It’s not like Lock burned bridges in Denver. He did catch a lot of flack from fans who insist that he’s not good but also don’t consider all of the facts from when he was the team’s starter. He never had a great opportunity to show what he could do and that, to me, is not debatable.
He was included in the trade that landed the team Wilson this past season but if the Broncos brought back Brock Osweiler at one time, Lock should be more than welcome to come back as well.
The Seattle Seahawks also have Geno Smith set to hit free agency but after the season he had, in which he won the league’s Comeback Player of the Year, they will absolutely bring him back. How does that organization feel with Lock as the backup?
They do not have any other quarterbacks on the roster under contract and they will have to spend a lot on Smith to keep him around so they will be looking for a cheap option like Lock as well.
If he’s available, the Broncos could do much worse.
