Is Sean Payton trying to recruit a rival player to the Broncos?
On Up and Adams, Sean Payton made it very clear where he stands regarding a rival player. Is Payton already trying to recruit players to Denver?
Sean Payton is a clever man and is already getting to work for the Denver Broncos.
On Up & Adams, a show on FanDuel TV hosted by Kay Adams, both Payton and free agent running back Josh Jacobs were on the show together, and the first-year Broncos head coach made it very clear where he stands with the player:
Jacobs, who had his fifth-year option declined by the team, is set to be a free agent this season after being drafted in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. In four years with the Las Vegas Raiders, Jacobs has put up some stellar numbers:
1,072 carries, 4,740 yards, 40 touchdowns, and 4.4 yards per carry. 2022 was the best season of his career, as he rushed for 1,653 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also added 53 receptions for 400 yards, so Jacobs had a healthy 2,053 yards from scrimmage this season.
Jacobs is turning just 25 years old in a couple of days, so this is an investment the Denver Broncos should try to make, and Sean Payton already seems to have voiced his opinion on the running back.
With Javonte Williams not likely ready for week one with his torn ACL, Denver will need to find themselves a true RB1.
Latavius Murray had a nice stretch for the team in 2022, but at his age, he cannot be given RB1 duties. He’d function just perfectly as a RB2 in this offense and has played with Sean Payton before, so that is someone who is likely going to be in the RB room this coming season.
Just think for a second about the amount of talent Denver could have in the backfield if they were to sign Jacobs. A RB room of Jacobs, Williams, and Murray would easily be the top in the NFL and would surely wear down opposing defenses, especially as the season gets into the later weeks.
George Paton has not been afraid to invest in the RB position, so don’t be surprised if he tries to make a big splash at that position this offseason.
