With a new coaching staff in place, you can’t help but think to the extreme on both ends of the spectrum for KJ Hamler.

Sean Payton’s arrival in Denver could be really great for Hamler, or it could mean the end of his time as a Bronco. Hamler is a special, unique talent when it comes to his speed on the field. He can stretch the field vertically as well as anybody.

The problem is, you just never really see him on the field. It’s extremely unfortunate.

Hamler miraculously returned to the field for the Broncos to start last season, despite the fact that he suffered major injuries early on in the 2021 season that caused him to have multiple major procedures. He lost a bunch of weight in the hospital, lost his beloved grandmother, and had a tremendous fight back to the field last year.

His courage and mental fortitude are admirable, and you hope the Broncos will get the chance to see the former second-round pick out of Penn State actually do the things we all hoped we would get to see from him when he was drafted.

Hamler’s primary issues as an NFL player have been with his hamstrings. He has been struggling with hamstring issues dating back to his time as a member of the Penn State program.

With one year remaining on his rookie deal, teams might be willing to take a shot on Hamler’s upside for the low price of a late-round pick. The Broncos might prefer to take that roll of the dice themselves, but they also can’t bank a ton on Hamler staying healthy in 2023.
