Terry Bradshaw, who worked with Sean Payton for a year at FOX, indicated that Payton does not actually want to work with Russell Wilson. Honestly, if this is true, it’s a big deal.
Bradshaw is apparently part of the giant media presence during the week before the Super Bowl, and had some stuff to say about his former co-worker, Sean Payton, who is now head coach of the Denver Broncos.
Tom Rock from Newsday indicates that Payton did not want the head coaching job in Arizona because of Kyler Murray, and also apparently feels the same way about the Denver Broncos job.
Some advocated for the Broncos to move on from Russell Wilson after just one year, but many have now taken the stance that the team could cut Wilson after 2023 if things don’t drastically improve.
Contractually, the Broncos would not save a dime on their cap space but would have to eat over $35 million worth of dead money. It would be hard to swallow financially, but possible.
If Wilson does not improve significantly, I do think the Broncos could take this path and allow Sean Payton to pick his own quarterback.
From the broad football side of things, Payton apparently taking this job in spite of Russ could have ripple effects on the performance of the team.
Do we know for sure that Payton would 100% put himself into the offense if he does not want to work with Wilson? Also, why does he apparently not want to work with him?
is Payton sure he can “fix” the veteran quarterback? Is it more because of Wilson’s perhaps off-putting personality?
5 high-upside reclamation QBs the Broncos, Sean Payton should target
The Denver Broncos need to upgrade the QB position behind Russell Wilson. What about some high-upside, reclamation projects for Sean Payton?
This does seem a bit concerning. Some may not believe what Terry Bradshaw has said about Payton, Wilson, and the Broncos, but if it’s even a little bit true, this could end poorly.
