3 Broncos who have played their last game for the team

Dalton Risner, Guard

There is this weird narrative around Risner that he’s this quality guard who should be given an extension from the team.  I’ve personally seen some of the more national media and some local Denver media talk about him favorably, but he’s simply not good at what he does.

After his 2019 rookie season, Risner has fallen off quite a bit.  He’s atrocious in pass protection and has slow, laboring feet.  He gets sat on his rear end and blown by quite a bit in pass pro.  However, he is competent in the run game.

But, overall, Risner has been more of a liability for the Broncos than an asset, and I do think a team desperate enough will pay what he wants.  The guard market in free agency isn’t super special, but I do think Denver can find an upgrade.

Expect the team to go heavy in the offensive line during the free agency period and in the NFL draft.  Put simply, there just needs to be an influx of talent in this unit.  Outside of Garett Bolles and Quinn Meinerz, I don’t think the team has many talented players in this unit.

Unfortunately for Dalton Risner, he will not return to Denver in 2023.
