New coach will have to get Russ right

The No.1 goal for the coach that is hired next, aside from winning again, will be to “fix” Russell Wilson.

Perhaps the most shocking aspect of this entire NFL season, for any team, was just how bad he was in his first year with the Broncos after the team gave up so much to get him.

This is potentially the main reason why a first-year guy is just not the right choice to make. Wilson is going to need to work side by side with a guy who he can trust to install a system that accentuates his talent, rather than leads him to spots he’s not as comfortable in, which was clearly the case this season.

The Broncos gave away several future picks in addition to signing Wilson to a massive contract extension. The team can’t entrust a guy who has never done this before to come in and make sure that Wilson doesn’t completely fall apart.

This is why guys like Sean Payton and Jim Harbaugh are ideal candidates while Ryan, Steichen and any other hot name that has never been a coach needs to be passed by.
