For the Denver Broncos, one incredibly bad streak continued with a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, but the team is out of the record books for two other streaks related to losing, at least for now.

Though the Broncos did drop a game to the Chiefs for a 15th straight time, a streak they soon need to find a way to break. However, two other teams that lost on Sunday prevented their losing ways from becoming even more depressing.

First, the New York Jets dropped their Week 17 game to the Seattle Seahawks, officially eliminating them from playoff contention. They have now missed the playoffs in each of the last 12 seasons.

The Broncos are second on that list, having missed the playoffs every year since winning Super Bowl 50. With the Jets’ loss, they don’t vault into the top spot.

Secondly, though the Broncos were smashed by the Los Angeles Rams on Christmas Day, the Rams lost for the 11th time this season on Sunday during their 31-10 defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Chargers.

That sets the record for the most losses in NFL history by a defending Super Bowl champion, a record that was held by the 1999 Broncos.

The Broncos have not beaten the Chiefs since September 2015. Patrick Mahomes is still undefeated against the Broncos as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback. These are some things that need to drive the Broncos going forward as they absolutely must find a way to get that monkey off their back.

The Broncos had their chances to win on Sunday and that is one thing they can look to when they try to figure out how to get over this hump. They have competed well in many games against the Chiefs, even when the team has been bad.
