The Denver Broncos’ 2022 season is effectively over. Who could be some underrated free agents the team could target this coming offseason?  I find it likely that the team will be active in the coming free agency period.  They are going to try and make it work with Russell Wilson, so relying on rookie draft picks for that would be the wrong idea.

I’d expect the team to sign a handful of starters, especially on offense.  The team can create a good bit of cap spaces with releases and restructures that won’t hurt the overall talent the roster has.  While many of us will be fixated on some of the top free agents to fill needs for the Broncos, let’s look at some underrated targets that likely won’t make the top headlines.

Three underrated free agents for the Denver Broncos in 2023

DJ Chark, Wide receiver

Chark was a former second-round pick back in the 2018 NFL Draft of the Jacksonville Jaguars.  He broke out in 2019 with a 1,000-yard receiving season and eight touchdown catches.  Unfortunately, he’s struggled with injuries since that year and signed with the Detroit Lions for 2022.

He’s 6’4″ and has 4.3 speed.  I understand that Denver has had bad luck with their own injuries, but perhaps the front office would be willing to look at Chark.  He’s a massive mismatch for opposing defenses.  He’s a true X receiver with the speed of a slot player.

My reasoning for me wanting the Broncos to sign him is the return of Tim Patrick.  He’ll be coming off a torn ACL and the team cannot trust Patrick on the field until he can prove it.
