Best head coaches for the Denver Broncos in 2023

3. Jim Caldwell

I would love Jim Caldwell as a potential hire for the team.  For a few reasons, Caldwell might actually make the most sense for Denver.

  • He has connections with Peyton Manning and the Broncos ownership group wants his input
  • Caldwell has experience as a head coach with two teams and winning records at both stops
  • He’s an offensive mind with QB development under his belt

If the Broncos aren’t getting seven years out of Russell Wilson like they initially thought, the team might be in the QB development process sooner than they thought, and Caldwell has that going for him.  He’s also a widely respected coach and would likely bring a quality and veteran staff with him.

He has served as a QB coach with Penn State, Tampa Bay, Indianapolis, Baltimore, and Miami.  He was with Manning from 2002-2011 where he won multiple MVP awards and was with Baltimore in 2012 when they made their magical run to the Super Bowl.

What box doesn’t Caldwell check?  I know he isn’t the hottest name on the market, but that’s not what the team needs.  I think no matter where a franchise is, either in a full rebuilding mode or a win-now mode, hiring Jim Caldwell makes sense.

I’d be willing to bet Denver has him at or near the top of their list and would expect him to get an interview.
