3. Denver Broncos should consider signing QB Jacoby Brissett

One free agent name that intrigues me is Cleveland Browns “interim” starter Jacoby Brissett. The Browns have rolled with Brissett while waiting for Deshaun Watson to be ready to go, and he’s done a decent job for them. He’s thrown 12 touchdown passes in 11 games while the Browns have the 11th-best scoring offense in the league.

Brissett is completing 64.1 percent of his passes and after beating Tom Brady for his final act this season (barring an injury to Watson), Brissett stated to the media that he feels he’s proven himself to be a legit starter in the NFL. Over the course of time, it’s tough to disagree with him, even if he’s merely a “bridge” type of starter.

And isn’t that exactly what the Broncos would need in 2023? Not just a bridge player, but someone your offense can succeed with while you search for the long-term solution. I think Brissett has proven he can do that as a member of the Cleveland Browns here in 2022, and having played in a variety of offenses through the years, I think he would also be a fine fit for whoever is coaching in Denver in 2023.

A lot of Broncos fans want to see Frank Reich as the head coach in Denver in 2023, and it just so happens that both Reich and Brissett spent a ton of time together as members of the Indianapolis Colts. As a matter of fact, I’m sure Reich has a ton of respect for Brissett considering he stepped in during the 2019 season when Andrew Luck shockingly retired, and wound up going 7-8 as the Colts’ starter that year.

Perhaps even if not, but especially if the Broncos are able to hire Reich (in a way-in-the-distant-future situation), Brissett makes some sense.
