Heavily relying on the receivers for 2023
Going into the 2022 season, the Denver Broncos looked to have four solid wide receivers in Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, Tim Patrick, and KJ Hamler. Well, Patrick tore his ACL during the offseason, and both Jeudy and Hamler have struggled with inconsistencies, injuries, or a mix of both.
In reality, the Broncos’ wide receiver room was never a strength. When Patrick went down, that left them with just one proven receiver, and even Sutton has had a case of the dropsies this year. I think Denver needs to think about not only using a high draft pick on a pass catcher, but also signing someone in free agency.
It’s not wise to think we can rely on Tim Patrick entering his age-30 season off a torn ACL, and Jeudy and Hamler who have done nothing to prove they are solid receivers. In fact, I think the Broncos should consider shopping both of the third year players.
Building around Courtland Sutton and restocking the room with consistent talent might be the move. Jakobi Meyers is a free agent name I like. George Paton needs to be aggressive in this area this offseason, because again, Russell Wilson is not going anywhere.
