Three more ridiculous trades for Broncos after 2022

Trade your entire soul for Derrick Brown

OK so I do not literally mean that, but the Broncos could get super frisky and go all out along the defensive line.  Now, this would be an interesting case to me for a few reasons.  I do think there is a scenario where the Broncos need to invest heavily along the defensive line.

Dre’Mont Jones is a free agent at the end of the season and is in line for a massive payday, and he deserves every single penny.  Right now, he is still playing on his rookie deal.  So, here is what I am thinking about this scenario:

  • Dre’Mont Jones doesn’t care to stay in Denver and signs elsewhere
  • At the same time, Brown, who is due for an extension, can’t agree to one in Carolina and wants out
  • OR, Denver re-signs Jones and decides to further bolster their defensive line by trading for Derrick Brown

The third scenario probably won’t happen because of the insane investment that would be, but if Jones does not care to stay in Denver, why not make some calls about Brown?  According to ESPN, he ranks 6th in the NFL among run stop win rate among defensive tackles and ranks 10th among defensive tackles in pass rush win rate.

For some context, DJ Jones is first in run-stop win rate, and Dre’Mont Jones is 5th in pass rush win rate.  If Jones departs, Denver will need to replace him.
