Don’t be fooled by Broncos’ win heading into bye week

The Denver Broncos improved their record to 3-5 headed into their bye week, but don’t be fooled, this win is by no means “season-saving” for Hackett.  Reports were circulating that the Broncos could cut ties with Nathaniel Hackett if they had lost in London against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Well, the Broncos managed to win by four on the backs of another strong defensive performance and a whopping three offensive touchdowns.  It was nice to see Russell Wilson’s strong second half which consisted of a 98-yard scoring drive and an absolute bomb to KJ Hamler down the sideline.

The win was much needed and snapped a four-game losing streak.  Even better, the team now heads into the bye on a high note and likely enjoyed their plane ride back to the USA.  However, reality needs to soon set in for the team:

This win changes nothing for the big picture; Nathaniel Hackett is a bad head coach and his seat should still be on fire.

One win against a bad team is not a “season-saving” win as some were saying.  I don’t think this win is saving any jobs, rather, this was simply the bare minimum.  Once again, the Denver Broncos got called for a metric ton of penalties.  We saw some poor offensive line play, holes in the defense, and bad play from the offense from time to time.

It was the status quo yet again.  Nothing positive changed except the team doing just enough to win, which was only slightly different from weeks prior.  Being 3-5 is inexcusable at this point, and to make matters worse, the Broncos’ schedule after the bye week is much harder than it was before.

They play the Chiefs twice, Chargers again, the Titans, and the Ravens, to name a few games.  It could get much uglier, and Hackett’s job should not be safe by any means.  In fact, if the rumors were true that he could have been fired after week eight, the team should keep that energy after the bye week.

What happens if the team falls flat against a Titans team that has much less talent than the Broncos?  What happens if Denver loses another two games in a row?  Let’s not get confused here; this win should not allow Hackett to keep his job for the rest of the season.  Let’s not be fooled here.
