The AFC West has not been the overly competitive conference like many thought it would be. Through six weeks, what do the standings look like?  If nothing else, the Broncos not being last in the AFC West is a positive thing.  Their 2-4 record looks bad, but it’s not last.

The division hasn’t been as good as many thought.  Naturally, the Kansas City Chiefs are first in the division.  There is still a ton of football left for each team, so the standings might end up getting some more movement.

What do the standings look like after week six?

AFC West standings after week six: Denver Broncos plummeting

1. Kansas City Chiefs (4-2)

The Kansas City Chiefs are 4-2 and are in first place in the AFC West.  Their last game was a thriller against the Buffalo Bills, but two costly Patrick Mahomes interceptions proved to be the difference maker.

There is no reason to believe that the Chiefs won’t be at the top yet again.  The offense appears to be just fine without Tyreek Hill, and the defense is playing good enough.  The Chiefs travel to San Francisco to face the 49ers on Sunday.

The 49ers’ defense is tough, but the Chiefs should be able to win that one.

2. Los Angeles Chargers (4-2)

The Chargers got even with the Chiefs’ record with their win over the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football.  It was an ugly game, but the home team prevailed.  The Chargers are dealing with a ton of injuries themselves, including Rashawn Slater, Joey Bosa, and Keenan Allen.

However, being 4-2 after six games and with all of those injuries is a testament to the coaching staff and depth of the team.  The Chargers face the Seahawks this coming Sunday, at home.

3. Denver Broncos (2-4)

The Denver Broncos are an absolute mess at 2-4, but they’re not out of it yet.  They are just about the most injured team in football, including Russell Wilson, who has shoulder and hamstring ailments.  Denver has two winnable games on their schedule before the bye week, at home against the Jets on Sunday and in London against the Jaguars the week after.

Denver could get to 4-4 by the bye week, but they could also be 2-6.  It’s a tough situation for them to be in, and I’m not sure they have the facilities to get out of it.

4. Las Vegas Raiders (1-4)

The Raiders were on their bye week, but knowing them, I wouldn’t have been surprised if they’d lost that week.  They are 1-4, but their record does not reflect how tough they’ve played and how many one-score games they have been in.

They really should be a two or three-win team, but Josh McDaniels is their head coach, and he hasn’t been known for being that great at serving in that role.  I think the Raiders will likely begin playing better and I could see them finishing with seven or eight wins, which they could take into 2023.
