On Tuesday, it was reported that Russell Wilson is getting an MRI on his hamstring in what could be a “fairly significant” injury.  When it rains, it pours.  The Denver Broncos could not be in a worse position in year one of the Russell Wilson-Nathaniel Hackett era.  Anything that can go wrong, has.

Now, Russell Wilson appears to be injured in what could be a “fairly significant” hamstring injury, according to Andrew Siciliano, originally reported by Tom Pelissero.  Fairly significant likely means, to me at least, several weeks at the minimum.  Russell Wilson had stayed nearly perfectly healthy up until this point, and the only games he missed were because of a freak finger injury that he suffered back in 2021, so I’m not sure this could be considered his body breaking down, right? (nervous typing)…

Russell Wilson may miss time with a potentially significant hamstring issue

Now what?  Russell Wilson is going to miss some games, it seems, so what do the Broncos do?  Well, if George Paton still wants to give Nathaniel Hackett a chance to save his job, it sure won’t be because of the play of Brett Rypien, who I do not think is backup QB material.

Denver might be more willing to make a trade now that Russell Wilson appears to be headed toward some sort of recovery period.  Who could the Denver Broncos trade for in this case?

Gardner Minshew – Currently the backup QB in Philadelphia and someone who has some nice passing statistics on his short resume.

Mason Rudolph or Mitchell Trubisky – The Kenny Pickett era is in full swing, but he got a concussion on Sunday, so the Steelers might not be willing to move one or the other quite yet.

Tyrod Taylor – The backup in New York who is likely better than Daniel Jones, but it’s clear to see why he was signed as the backup.  He takes care of the ball and can move in the pocket.

Case Keenum – Former Broncos’ starter in 2018 who is likely the best backup QB in the NFL.  Has played in and had big games during his career.  Most known for his 2017 season as a Viking.

Nick Foles – Demoted to third-string QB recently in Indianapolis.  He’s a quarterback.  That’s about it.  Can play good ball at times.

Trevor Siemian – First Broncos’ QB to start in the post-Manning era, and he held his own for being a seventh-round pick back in 2015

I suppose we will see in the coming hours what kind of injury this is and what the plan of action is.  I do think the Broncos would end up making a move for another quarterback if Wilson has to miss significant time.  It would be a disservice to Nathaniel Hackett to not give him every chance to save his job.
