After two straight losses in weeks four and five, the Denver Broncos’ 2022 season is officially over, even though they are one game below .500.  Being 2-3 is not a death sentence in the NFL, but for the 2022 Denver Broncos, this is the end of the season.  The team is not going to make the playoffs and might win a few more games, max.

After five weeks, the same exact issues that hurt the team earlier in the season are still present on the field.  Other factors have also contributed to the team’s disgusting start with Russell Wilson and Nathaniel Hackett.  For many reasons, the 2022 season is over.

The Denver Broncos 2022 season is officially over

Nathaniel Hackett

Nathaniel Hackett is holding this team back.  Even though he has only coached for five games as head coach, it’s clear that he has no idea what he’s doing.  He hired a staff that has made the Broncos’ roster, which is loaded with talent, look like the winless Lions from back in the day.

Specifically, the offensive line has looked awful through five games.  It’s a mystery why Denver seemingly let Mike Munchak walk out of the building to hire Butch Barry instead.  Players have regressed, and it’s likely clear that Wilson did not expect his new offensive line to look this bad.

The same mistakes keep happening

What do we call it when a professional sports team keeps making the same mistakes over and over?  Five weeks in a row is more than a trend and more than a habit.  It’s clear that the coaching staff is simply not doing their jobs well enough.  Drive-killing penalties are still happening.  Poor play-calling is still happening, and the staff doesn’t seem willing to make any personnel changes on the field to try and stop some of these issues.

They dug themselves a hole, and don’t know how to get out of it.  They’re trying to use a stepstool when they need to use a ladder.

The schedule gets tougher

The first half schedule for the Denver Broncos was supposed to be their easiest half.  In fact, their first-half schedule is one of the easiest in the NFL, and their second-half schedule, after their bye week, is one of the hardest.  They still have to play the Chiefs and Chargers four times.  They also have games against the Rams, Titans, and Ravens.

If the Denver Broncos are struggling this bad during their easier stretch, how will it look after the bye week?

Is Russell Wilson actually washed?

Could Russell Wilson actually be washed up?  Is that a possibility that we should be entertaining?  He looked abysmal on Thursday night, throwing two interceptions that would have shocked the fans if they came from Drew Lock, let alone someone of Wilson’s caliber.

He is taking too many sacks, isn’t using his legs enough, and is missing wide-open receivers.  Perhaps the Seattle Seahawks were right.

For many reasons, the 2022 Denver Broncos’ season is over.
