Player no. 3 the Denver Broncos can’t lose: Courtland Sutton, WR

Throughout the first four games of the season, Courtland Sutton has been the Denver Broncos best offensive player. There seems to be a false narrative still floating around not just in Broncos Country but elsewhere in the football community that wide receivers in the NFL today are a dime a dozen and they are one of the more replaceable positions on a roster.

That could not be further from the truth.

Sure, you can get production out of guys drafted in any round at the position, but wide receiver has become a premium position in the NFL on the same tier as left tackle, cornerback, and edge rusher, and the pay scale of the best players at the position is reflective of that. Having a top-flight receiver like Courtland Sutton is not a luxury for the Denver Broncos — it’s an absolute necessity.

And especially after losing Tim Patrick, we’re seeing the ill effects of what a diminished wide receiver room can do in limiting your offense. After losing Patrick for the season to an ACL injury, losing Courtland Sutton for any period of time would be absolutely detrimental. This is a guy who can come up with clutch receptions at any level of the field. He’s a tremendous red zone threat. He’s able to draw flags downfield.

Aside from losing Russell Wilson, there would not be a more painful loss than this one if the Broncos had to deal without Courtland Sutton for any period of time.
