The Denver Broncos face the San Francisco 49ers in one of the marquee matchups in Week 3 of the NFL season. The game will be featured on Sunday Night Football.

The Broncos have looked sluggish and unprepared in the first two games of the season and are fortunate to have a 1-1 record. Those two games were also against two of the more inferior opponents on this year’s schedule.

But there are several reasons why that has been the case and for the most part, the Broncos have been their own worst enemy.

Against a 49ers team that should be much better than the one we saw in Week 1, the Broncos are going to have to clean some things up in order to have a chance to win this game.

Broncos must limit penalties

Through two games, the Broncos are the most penalized team in the NFL. They have been flagged a ridiculous 25 times for 206 yards against and that makes it very difficult to win games.

They have been penalized numerous times for false starts and delay of game and those are things that just have to disappear. The Broncos need to slice their average of 12.5 penalties per game in half for this one as the 49ers are easily the best team they have faced thus far in 2022.
