5. Former 49ers players come up huge vs. their former team

The Denver Broncos are taking on the San Francisco 49ers this week, a familiar foe to two new defensive starters in Denver.

Defensive tackle DJ Jones and nickel cornerback K’Waun Williams were part of the 49ers the last handful of years, including when the team made it to the NFL’s final four in January against the Los Angeles Rams. Not only are Jones and Williams familiar with the 49ers, but defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero is no stranger to them, either. He and a couple of other Broncos assistants were with the Los Angeles Rams last year who faced the 49ers a total of three times.

In the regular season, they got smacked by the 49ers 31-10 in the first meeting between the two teams, then lost by a field goal in overtime the next time they faced off. In the playoffs, the Rams gutted out a 20-17 win over their division foes and it will be interesting to see what, if anything, from that defensive gameplan Evero can use.

There’s no doubt he’ll be getting some intel from Jones and Williams about the 49ers’ tendencies, what they like to do out of certain alignments offensively, and how to be better equipped and disciplined against certain pre-snap looks the 49ers will give.

Against their former team, I’m going to say that DJ Jones has himself a sack and that K’Waun Williams snatches an interception off of Jimmy Garoppolo.
