Players who need a big game for the Broncos against the 49ers

The run defense

The San Francisco 49ers currently rank fourth in the NFL with 365 rushing yards through two games.  That’s 182.5 yards per game.  If Denver wants to win this contest, they’ll need to force Jimmy Garoppolo to win it through the air.  Garoppolo is not a good passer and has shown an affinity for bad interceptions.

The defense needs to force Garoppolo to take shots down the field.  He’s not particularly accurate and doesn’t have crazy arm talent either.  The Denver Broncos rush defense ranks 6th in the NFL.  They’ve allowed just 156 yards through two games for 4.2 yards per carry.

So far, the rush defense has been playing at the level needed.  The additions of DJ Jones and Randy Gregory up front have obviously provided a needed boost to this unit.  The Broncos haven’t exactly faced elite running backs, and the 49ers fortunately do not have any, but their elite offensive scheme is precisely what teams struggle with.

One of these units has to give on Sunday, and if Denver wants to come away with a victory, DJ Jones and co. need to step up.
