Denver Broncos AFC West recap and Week 3 predictions
The Denver Broncos looked terrible despite a Week 2 victory over the Houston Texans, but they still don’t sit at the bottom of the AFC West.
In what was a wild Week 2 around the league filled with offensive explosions and some crazy comebacks, the Broncos had to fight until the end to get past the lowly Texans at home, winning 16-9. In many ways, it still felt like a loss.
Here are how the standings in the AFC West currently look:
Kansas City Chiefs: 2-0
Los Angeles Chargers: 1-1
Denver Broncos: 1-1
Las Vegas Raiders: 0-2
Week 2 recap for Denver Broncos and AFC West
The Broncos once again were in the middle of a comedy of errors led by a coaching staff that appears to be in completely over its head but they did get their first victory of the 2022 season.
On Thursday night, the Chargers and Chiefs played in a great game that could have gone either way but with the Chargers going in for a score, Justin Herbert threw an interception that Jaylen Watson returned 99 yards for a touchdown. That play changed the game.
These are definitely the two best teams in the division right now but for the time being, the Chiefs stay a tick ahead.
Shortly after the game between the Broncos and Texans concluded, fans were shown the Raiders facing a furious comeback attempt by Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals. Up 16 points in the fourth quarter, the Raiders allowed the Cards to come all the way back and send the game into overtime on the last play of the game.
In overtime, Hunter Renfrow coughed the ball up after a reception and Byron Murphy scooped it up and raced 59 yards the other way for a touchdown. The Raiders fell to 0-2. Josh McDaniels fell to 0-2. That had to bring a smile to the face of Broncos Country, which was still likely seething mad over the performance of its team just a bit earlier.
Week 3 predictions
Chiefs at Colts: The Indianapolis Colts have looked absolutely terrible in their first two games and things could start to get very rocky for them here as they take on one of the league’s hottest teams.
Frank Reich could soon be coaching for his job and the Chiefs will come in on 10 days rest with Patrick Mahomes and company ready to put up a lot of points.
Chiefs 27, Colts 17
Jaguars at Chargers: The Jacksonville Jaguars were able to get a shutout victory over the Colts in Week 2 but taking on a solid Chargers team coming off a long layoff, one looking to get the taste of a tough loss out of its mouth, is going to be a tough hill to climb.
Chargers 30, Jaguars 13
Raiders at Titans: This is going to be an interesting game between two teams that will be desperate for a win. Will the Titans be starting Ryan Tannehilll or Malik Willis at quarterback? They will likely go with Tannehill, despite yanking him in Week 2.
Both of these teams made the playoffs last year and one of them will be 0-3 after this game. It will come down to coaching and Mike Vrabel will outwork McDaniels in that department.
Titans 24, Raiders 23
49ers at Broncos: This is going to be a major test for the Broncos and we should know a lot about this team after this game. Personally, I feel that the injury to Trey Lance forcing the Niners to go back to Jimmy Garoppolo actually makes this a more difficult matchup for the Broncos.
It would be nice to see the Broncos protect home field but what have they done to make you believe they will in the first two games?
49ers 23, Broncos 14
