The Denver Broncos are getting ready to embark on what should be a huge year for the team, something that Broncos Country hasn’t experienced for several years.

The Broncos have a new quarterback and a solid roster. There are many reasons for the fan base to be excited. That is why many are predicting the team to have a huge turnaround after missing the playoffs six years in a row.

But we can’t get too far ahead of ourselves and must realize that patience is going to be necessary.

The Broncos will be viewed as a Super Bowl contender by some and fans will likely be happy with nothing less, but it could require a more gradual process before Russell Wilson gets this team to the top of the hill.

The main reason for that is the fact that the team has a rookie head coach.

Although Nathaniel Hackett seems to be a bright, energetic guy with a high football IQ, he is installing a brand new system and will be trying to turn around a pretty downtrodden franchise.

Frankly, rookie coaches winning the Super Bowl is nearly unheard of. Though it has happened, there have only been two instances in history.

All the way back in 1970, Don McCafferty won Super Bowl V as the head coach of the Baltimore Colts. Then in 1989, George Seifert led the San Francisco 49ers to a win in Super Bowl XXIV, coincidentally by beating the Broncos. But those two situations were vastly different from what the Broncos will face.

Nathaniel Hackett will be without many luxuries that Super Bowl-winning rookie coaches had

McCafferty had been with the Colts’ organization since 1959. He took over the coaching reigns from Don Shula and his quarterback was Johnny Unitas.

In San Francisco, Seifert had been part of the team’s coaching staff since 1980. He replaced Bill Walsh and the quarterback was Joe Montana.

Shula and Walsh are two of the greatest head coaches in NFL history and both Montana and Unitas are on a short list of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game.

Though Wilson has put together one of the better quarterback resumes in league history, he is new to his team as well. He is new to Hackett’s system as well, stacking the odds against a Broncos’ Super Bowl win a bit more.

Though it would be great to see the Broncos win it all and it is certainly not impossible, it would absolutely be unprecedented for Hackett to be able to accomplish the feat.
