Broncos final roster prediction No. 5: The wide receivers

The most competitive spot on the roster this summer is also one of the more difficult to sort through.

The Broncos have widdled this list down a bit from the way it started when training camp opened and no decisions are going to be easy at this point. Let’s start with what seems to be known.

Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy and K.J. Hamler are the team’s top three receivers. Rookie Montrell Washington has easily played his way onto the team. Six seems to be the magic number for a 53-man roster, so that leaves two spots.

Darrius Shepherd and Jalen Virgil will be cut, though Virgil will almost certainly be brought back to the practice squad. That leaves Kendall Hinton, Seth Williams, Tyrie Cleveland and Brandon Johnson vying for two spots.

Williams will be a tough cut, but I think he goes. I don’t think there is any way the team can cut Hinton at this point, so he makes the team. That leaves Johnson or Cleveland.

Johnson seems to have a way bigger ceiling and should be the choice, but the injury he sustained in the preseason finale somewhat hampers his chances. If not for that, he likely makes this squad but it remains to be seen what the Broncos do with him.

Placing him on injured reserve will certainly be discussed.

That leaves Cleveland who is one of the team’s better special teams guys and he will get that last roster spot as a result of that.
