Denver Broncos free agent target no. 3: Sheldon Richardson, DL

The second out of three defensive linemen the Denver Broncos should potentially look into signing, Sheldon Richardson has long been a productive NFL defensive lineman. Now, he could provide some depth to the Denver Broncos up front.

The former first-round pick of the New York Jets back in 2013 has not missed a game since 2017. He’s been durable, he’s been productive, and he’s available. Richardson is coming off of a season with the Minnesota Vikings in which he racked up 13 QB hits, the most he’s had in a season since 2018. He’s obviously not falling off, by any means, and for the Broncos, he could be extremely valuable to have as the season wears along.

One primary connection that Richardson has in Denver is general manager George Paton, who was in the Vikings’ front office when the team signed Richardson back in 2018. After the 2018 season, Richardson moved on to Cleveland to play for the Browns for two seasons before re-signing with the Vikings again last year.

Another big connection for Richardson in Denver could be Russell Wilson. Richardson was a member of the Seattle Seahawks for the 2017 season after Seattle acquired him in a trade, so Wilson is undoubtedly familiar with him.

One way or another, the veteran Richardson doesn’t need to come in and steal snaps from anyone the Broncos are really hoping to get on the field for significant snaps in 2022. He can be an effective depth piece and give the team some peace of mind while young players like Matt Henningsen and Eyioma Uwazurike continue to develop.
