The Denver Broncos were blown out in their second preseason game against the Buffalo Bills, but there truly isn’t much to worry about.

I think any time our favorite teams get blown out in a game, we tend to have knee-jerk reactions.  For the Broncos, their 27-point defeat against the Bills spawned some of these reactions on social media.

In my opinion, this game leaves us with very little to worry about. For starters, pun intended, the Bills played starters on both sides of the ball throughout the game. They started the game with their first-string offense. For context, the Broncos hardly played any starters at all. Different teams will have different preseason philosophies.

Some teams may believe that getting the starters on the field throughout the preseason is a smart move to ensure they don’t get cold, but perhaps other teams think that since they are established starters, they shouldn’t need much preseason action to ensure their readiness for the NFL season.

I tend to agree with the thinking in the latter. I personally would see no value in watching Russell Wilson throw passes to Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton in a preseason game. Would I hate it if the team decided to give the starters a few plays in the team’s last preseason game? Not really. I do think you can balance this in the right way.

As for the on-field performance on Saturday, the Broncos were simply outmuscled on both sides of the ball. They gave up over 300 passing yards and 200 rushing yards, along with the 42 point total that the Bills put on the board. I began to see Broncos’ fans on social media vent their concerns with the team’s performance, but here’s where I stand:

The Buffalo Bills played their starters in this game, and they have largely been viewed as the preseason Super Bowl favorites. Of course they’d tear up the Denver Broncos‘ second and third stringers, that’s what they’d be expected to do every time.

Trending. If Broncos miss playoffs in '22, Hackett should be fired. light

The Broncos have a solid team from top to bottom with adequate depth. The Bills have a better team from top to bottom with better depth. Let’s not freak out over a preseason loss. The Broncos will be fine.
