Denver Broncos training camp Day 8 standout: DeShawn Williams, DL

One of the players that deserves some recognition for a strong training camp thus far is defensive lineman DeShawn Williams.

The Broncos decided to bring Williams back after another strong year in 2021 when he racked up a career-best 39 total tackles.

Williams has drawn rave reviews from the coaching staff as well as the media in attendance, and he was getting after the quarterback early on Day 8 of Denver Broncos training camp.

Defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero said recently that “D-Will” is one of the players he feels like is flying under the radar right now to most.

Nathaniel Hackett expounded on the strong offseason Williams has been having and the impression he’s made.

"“I’ll tell you, he’s one of those guys—especially when you meet him for the first time—you’re a little surprised. His ability to disturb and obstruct on that line of scrimmage is unbelievable. He’s got a low center of gravity, he has that ability to use his hands and disrupt is just unbelievable. I’ve been really blown away by him. Watching how he fights off blocks—he had one that was very controversial in our competition where he had an unbelievable swim move inside on a pass rush. It was impressive watching him move. He’s done a good job. He fights all the time, and I’m just really happy with where he is going.” Nathaniel Hackett (via Broncos PR)"

General manager George Paton recently named DeShawn Williams as one of the team’s “core guys” they were able to bring back this offseason and you can start to see the writing on the wall here.

Don’t be surprised if, against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1, DeShawn Williams is one of the three starting defensive linemen out there with Dre’Mont Jones and DJ Jones.
