Several teams across the NFL have announced that they will don alternate helmets at some point in the 2022 NFL season. The Denver Broncos should join that crowd.

As of now, 13 teams in the league (nearly half of them) have announced an alternate helmet for the upcoming season. It may not mean much to some, but the Broncos are a team that could use a fresh new look.

We have discussed some ugly Broncos uniforms and across history, there have been a few of those. The team has worn the uniforms and helmets that they currently wear since 1997. Prior to that, the uniforms they had were worn from 1968-1996.

The NFL has allowed teams to switch up their uniforms and add alternative jerseys as well as “color rush” jerseys over the last several years. Most fans seemed to enjoy the Broncos’ color rush scheme.

Count me in that mix because the helmet featured the old “D” logo with the horse coming out of it and though I may be in the minority, I would take that logo over the current one all day.

So if the Broncos were to add an alternate helmet, the new helmet would have to feature the old Broncos logo.

Each of the league’s 32 logos was ranked by USA Today recently and they felt that only two teams (Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots) had worse-looking logos than the Broncos.

Many of the alternate helmets that will be worn this season by other teams are black. The Arizona Cardinals will wear black helmets, Washington Commanders, Philadelphia Eagles, Carolina Panthers, New York Jets and New Orleans Saints in 2022.

How would a black helmet with the old Broncos logo look? Probably pretty nice. Any time you can get the old logo into a Broncos uniform, it’s a good thing, much like the Color Rush look was able to accomplish.

Perhaps a fresh look of the old logo itself could work as well? Make the “D” in the logo white and the horse a bright, fiery orange color.

With a new ownership group taking over, this would be the right time to incorporate a new, alternative look in Denver.

What do you think? Should the team adopt a new look with an alternative helmet?
