Broncos trade Lloyd Cushenberry

This will be seen as controversial by some, but because the Broncos have multiple options for players they can plug in at safety, they could choose to move Lloyd Cushenberry.

It’s not that Cushenberry has been terrible for a third-round pick, but he hasn’t exactly been stellar either. In addition, the Broncos could put Quinn Meinerz in that spot. They could put rookie Luke Wattenberg there or they could slide veteran Graham Glasgow over to the center spot.

All of these are viable options and Paton is well aware of that. He could be in search of teams in need of an upgrade at center or if a team has a player go down at that position, then moving Cushenberry could absolutely be an option.

The Broncos do have some great options along the offensive line and if they are going to move a player in a trade before the season starts, it would make sense for it to be an offensive lineman. Dalton Risner’s name has been mentioned in connection with a trade many times this offseason and that could also happen, but Cushenberry makes sense too.

Meinerz just seems like a player the Broncos will get into the starting lineup sooner rather than later but if he goes to guard, that would relegate either Glasgow or Risner to the bench. The team also has Netane Muti who can play guard so there is a bit of a logjam there.

Both Meinerz and Glasgow can play center and Cushenberry, a former third-round pick could likely fetch at least a fifth-round choice in return.
