Denver Broncos training camp officially got underway on Wednesday. As the 2022 season unofficially begins, who are the most overrated players on the roster?

The Denver Broncos training camp began on Wednesday, as a new era also began.  With Russell Wilson in Denver, there are a clear and new set of expectations that haven’t been there since the 2015 season.

It is indeed a Super Bowl-contending type of feeling in Broncos Country.  Obviously, Russell Wilson is not the only part to this equation.  General Manager George Paton and former GM John Elway have assembled what appears to be one of the best rosters in all of football, even without considering the quarterback.

There are studs in both sides of the ball, but like most other teams in the NFL, there are some players on the roster that are getting a little to much credit and attention given their production.

Who are the three most overrated players on the Denver Broncos?

Three most overrated players on the Denver Broncos: DL Mike Purcell

One of the overrated players on the Denver Broncos is Mike Purcell.  Not too long ago, Purcell was seen as a huge piece of the Denver Broncos front seven equation.

The elite run-stuffing ability that he showed during parts of the 2019 and 2020 seasons led him to sign a three-year extension in October of 2020.

Unfortunately, about three weeks later, he suffered a season-ending foot injury, only playing in six games in 2020, and managing to play in 13 in 2021.

His performance since returning from the injury is far from what we saw in 2019 and does not adequately represent the $14 million extension he is currently playing on.

Mike Purcell was a very talented player for the Denver Broncos, but I do not think it would be wise to keep him on the roster with his current contract.  The team also added DJ Jones, Eyioma Uwazurike, and Matt Henningsen in free agency and the draft to bolster the defensive line.

If Purcell was still so reliable, why did Denver add so many younger bodies to this unit?
