As training camp kicks off for the Denver Broncos, both Randy Gregory and Billy Turner will be placed on the PUP list as they battle injuries.

It’s one of the most wonderful times of the year, the time when football returns! As training camp begins this morning for the Denver Broncos, we will be gifted many new storylines and topics to discuss and can file away our grievances for no new uniforms this season (though just temporarily–it’s time for an update).

However, not all of the news will be of the positive sort. Immediately with the beginning of camp this morning, Mike Klis reported that both outside linebacker Randy Gregory and tackle Billy Turner will be placed on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list and are likely to miss training camp.

This may seem like bad news, especially with Gregory’s history of missing time on the field (due to either injury or suspension), but as of now, there is little room for concern yet.

Tackle Billy Turner has also been placed on the PUP list after having a knee scope procedure on an injury that was sustained during the 2021 season.

After missing time with the Green Bay Packers with the aforementioned knee injury in the 2021 season, Turner got his second chance with the Denver Broncos after the Packers released him with a failed physical designation in March of 2022.

However, it remains to be seen if this injury will continue to hinder Turner as the 2022 season looms. Hopefully, he will be healed up soon and ready to compete.

It seems as if Gregory and Turner going onto the PUP list is simply taking preventative measures to ensure both players have the opportunity to get healthy before the beginning of the regular season.

It is disappointing that we will have to wait to see the potential Randy Gregory brings to the Broncos’ defense, but it is certainly a better option to have him heal now versus rush him back in and have him aggravate the injury and risk him missing more time.

With PUP rules, as long as both players are removed from the list by the beginning of the regular season, they will not miss any extended time. However, if not, they could miss as many as four games (a difference from the usual six with new rules).

According to Klis, both Gregory and Turner are progressing well in their recovery processes, furthering the idea that the Denver Broncos are simply playing it safe when it comes to the two players.

Though it’s not ideal conditions, especially with both players on new deals with the team, there is no reason for panic just yet, and it seems fair to be optimistic that we will see both players on the field for the regular season opener.
