2. How do the Denver Broncos sort out the wide receiver depth chart?

How will the Denver Broncos sort out the wide receiver position on the depth chart?

Beats me.

We know one thing is for certain: Barring injury, the top four at the position are relatively set.

  • Courtland Sutton
  • Tim Patrick
  • Jerry Jeudy
  • KJ Hamler

The next four or five guys you consider keeping are going to be of critical importance, because in recent years, we’ve seen the Broncos have to cycle through many different players at the receiver position, even looking to street free agents multiple times in 2021.

The team is almost certainly going to end up keeping 10 receivers with three or four going on the practice squad, but who else is making the roster?

Which players can you squeeze onto the practice squad?

For my money based on what we’ve heard coming out of OTAs, this is how I might order the next four guys on the roster at the position:

I include Washington in there because he’s likely going to be the team’s kickoff and punt returner, but are the Broncos going to keep him at the expense of keeping another one or two guys on that list?

That’s where things get really tricky.

Then you have other players like Seth Williams, Trey Quinn, promising UDFAs like Jalen Virgil and Brandon Johnson.

There’s a lot of talent here for receivers coach Zach Azzanni to work with. There’s potential we could see the Broncos swing a trade with someone at this position group like we saw last year with Trinity Benson.

Heck, depending on how things shake out with both rosters, you can’t help but wonder if a Trinity Benson reunion might be in the cards.

We’ll see what happens here but for now, the Broncos have so many guys at receiver and only so many spots. Training camp practices and preseason games will be major deciding factors in rounding out the final roster.
