4. What will the Denver Broncos’ edge rotation look like without Randy Gregory?

The Denver Broncos will head into training camp with a little bit of uncertainty off the edge.

There are some very positive developments here, however.

Namely, Bradley Chubb is fully healthy and ready to get back to his usual self in 2022. The issue for many Denver Broncos fans is that few people know what the “usual self” of Bradley Chubb looks like anymore.

He challenged for the rookie sack record back in 2018. He played through pain in 2020 and made the Pro Bowl after tearing his ACL the year before.

The 2019 and 2021 seasons feel like lost years for Chubb but he’s back, and he’s got some intriguing players playing on the opposite side of him.

Malik Reed is back, and everyone knows what he brings to the table at this point after starting most of the last few seasons.

Nik Bonitto out of Oklahoma was brought in as the team’s top draft choice and was one of the most consistently productive pass rushers in all of college football in 2020 and 2021.

Baron Browning is moving from the linebacker position to the edge, putting arguably the Broncos’ most spectacular athlete at one of the most premium defensive position groups.

With players like Christopher Allen and Aaron Patrick rounding out a fascinating depth chart here, it’s tough to be too worried about Randy Gregory, who had a shoulder procedure in March.

That shoulder procedure is going to keep the big-ticket free agent out of training camp for the most part as he works himself back to full strength.

Know this — Gregory is fully healed from his surgery. He’s not back to full strength. There’s a big difference.

It’s critical that Gregory has the time he needs to properly regain strength before he’s back out there hitting 330-pound offensive linemen with as strong of a hand punch as possible.

In the meantime, the Broncos have tons of players at this position group to work with and really experiment with, if they so choose.

This is an opportunity for Baron Browning to work in with the top defense, and for Nik Bonitto to do the same.

This is a chance for young guys like Christopher Allen and Aaron Patrick to make names for themselves.

We know what Gregory brings to the table, and the goal is for him to get as many regular season games as possible.

Get these young guys reps and make sure you’re truly bringing “waves” of pass rush in 2022.
