#4 Denver Broncos player in Madden 23: Running Back Melvin Gordon, 83 overall

Melvin Gordon was rated 85 overall at the start of Madden 22 and apparently, Chad Ochocinco Johnson and Co. felt it was necessary to bump him down a couple of notches.

Gordon and last year’s rookie running back Javonte Williams shared carries throughout the 2021 season and had the same number of carries, while Gordon had 15 more yards than Williams. Gordon finished the year with eight rushing touchdowns.

EA gave Gordon a speed rating of 91, which is respectable, for a player who is nearing 30 years old.

EA gave Gordon a carrying rating of 87 overall. A veteran of Gordon’s nature should not have that low of a carrying rating, although he did have three fumbles during the season and has been a known fumbler for his entire career, totaling 21.

Some of the notable categories Gordon is rated alright in are change of direction (86), ball carrier vision (90 — okay, that’s more than alright), stiff arm (86), juke moves (90).

In terms of catching, Gordon has the following route running ratings: short route running: 64, medium route running: 57, deep route running: 49.

The expectation is that Javonte Williams could see more carries in 2022 but Gordon was a free agent this offseason and the team eventually brought him back. I can’t see Gordon being too much of a second-fiddle to Williams as long as they share a backfield.
