Kansas City Chiefs biggest weakness in 2022: Wide Receiver

In case you’ve been living under a rock, the Kansas City Chiefs traded away wide receiver Tyreek Hill this offseason.

Hill is now a member of the Miami Dolphins, and the Chiefs are going with a “quantity over quality” kind of approach at the position now.

Without Tyreek Hill, here is the cast of characters the Chiefs will trot out at receiver in 2022:

  • JuJu Smith-Schuster
  • Mecole Hardman
  • Marquez Valdes-Scantling
  • Skyy Moore
  • Josh Gordon
  • Justyn Ross

Now let’s make something clear here — not all of these players are bad. But none of them is Tyreek Hill.

Not many in the history of the league are.

Hill is one of the NFL’s top game changers at the wide receiver position with play speed that is unrivaled, at least that I’ve ever seen.

The Chiefs are hoping this committee approach can serve them well and they’re also obviously banking on Patrick Mahomes being the tide to raise all boats.

And we have no reason to believe he won’t.

But Tyreek Hill was such an integral part of this team that looking at the group of receivers without him in it is slightly staggering.

Again, the Chiefs are banking on Mahomes making everyone better. He might make some of these guys look good but we haven’t seen that work out for Mecole Hardman to this point, and we didn’t see it last year with Josh Gordon.

Kansas City also said goodbye this offseason to Demarcus Robinson and Byron Pringle at the receiver position.
